Introducing the Lexus!

After months of searching for a vehicle that will get better gas mileage than the 79 Ford’s 8mpg for Jansen to drive to school in, Joe finally took off to Utah to look at some cars listed on KSL. What he drove home absolutely stunned me. He bought a silver 94 Lexus for under our budgeted $2000. Jansen paid $300 of it so he has part ownership in the car. It has a sunroof and black leather interior. The Lexus is definitely a sweet ride!

Joe had to sit Jansen down for a talk about driving the new car. Even though this is our Dave Ramsey car…bought with cash, people might get the wrong idea when he rolls up in a vehicle this nice. One of his uncles has already warned us that we just turned him into another one of those rich Mormon kids. Yeah, right. We talked about the importance of having ownership and taking ownership. The car comes with a catch. If Jansen’s room is clean, he gets to drive the Lexus. If it isn’t, he has to drive the van. Wait…my vehicle just became the punishment?

I am hoping we don’t have to buy another car for a very long time. I tease Joe that since he isn’t car hunting he won’t know what to do with all his extra time! Maybe he could get a second job? At any rate, the whole family is very pleased not to have to be borrowing Ed’s truck or Grandpa’s Marco truck any longer. This is a vehicle we will have for the duration of Jansen’s high school career. If he opts to take it to college he will have to pay for it. If not, Carlie will get to drive it too. Did I mention Carlie is half way through Driver’s Ed? It just goes to show that sometimes being patient for the right car actually does pay off or as Jans put it, “Hey, maybe Dad really does know what he’s doing!”
