Any marathon begins with the finish line in sight....mentally if not physically.
Unfortunately, Joe cramped up with 5-6 miles left to go and needed some extra help getting to the finish line. Our Bishop was unable to run the marathon due to injuries sustained while training so it seemed apropos that Eric was able to cross the finish line with Joe after all. Joe had stopped completely by the time Eric, Eli, Jans, and Carlie had found him only one mile from the finish line. Apparently the combination of introducing new substances in vitamin-e oil (loaded with soy) and a new energy bar, caused Joe to cramp in the most unpleasant way! And no, they weren't leg cramps:( It took Joe 42 minutes to complete the last two miles! Highly disappointing for him!
But he finished! Along with Ed, Paul, Jordan, and Kent. Awesome job guys!
Ed ran the last bit barefoot so of course he totally earned his creamsicle! Ed went on to compete in the Ragnar not even a week later! Holy cow!
It took Joe a while before he could function. Most of the pictures I took were of him laying on the ground after the race but that just didn't seem manly enough for what he had just accomplished. So let's just pretend he was stretching his calf muscles in this pic....yeah, calf muscles....right! Poor guy.
My brother Jordan totally studded it up! This was his very first marathon and wow did he do amazing! He also was ready for the Ragnar later that week. I was super impressed with his training dedication. If this is what P90X can do for you....sign me up! Jordan was in the best shape of his life. Marathon....shchmarathon....he hardly broke a sweat. He even called Julie from his iphone while running. Seriously cool! The next day he was right back at P90X as if he hadn't just run 26.2 miles the day before. Wow! I am so proud of my little bro!
Pain You Enjoy was the slogan for the Utah Valley Marathon 2012. I don't think Joe anticipated this type of pain. Not sure who took this picture or why but yep, that sums up the experience!
